100% NATUR
To keep the human footprint as small as possible, the coal urn is designed to be 100% sustainable.
Only beechwood charcoal from managed forests is used.
NO TROPICAL WOOD!
Beechwood charcoal
Charcoal is a carbon sink. To produce charcoal, beech wood is heated in the absence of oxygen. During this process, the liquid components of the wood evaporate, and charcoal is formed. CO2 is only released when the charcoal is burned. However, if it is buried again, as with our urn, the cycle is completed.
Production
The coal urn is manufactured regionally in Leipzig using an energy-efficient production process. Charcoal is liquefied and shaped, resulting in a solid, non-marking surface.
During the manufacturing process, the charcoal is mixed with a plant-based and renewable binder. This conserves our finite resources, and only what belongs there ends up in the ground.
Biological decomposition
During the resting period of the urn, water seeping into the ground and living organisms dissolve the plant-based binding agent of the charcoal urn.
Over time, this process decomposes the coal urn into its basic components, uniting the human ashes with nature.
Respect for the peace of the dead
Since the urn decomposes completely in the ground, no remains of the urn need to be exhumed and reburied even after the resting period. This ensures that the peace of the deceased is fully preserved.
Single-walled
Currently, double-vessel systems are predominantly used for burial.
This means that the ashes are first placed in an ash capsule and sealed. This capsule is then placed in a decorative urn by the funeral director and buried.
We believe this double burden on materials is unnecessary, which is why we sell an urn that can be filled directly with the ashes. The special Bionet lid closure allows the urn to be sealed airtight.
Clean floors
Charcoal is a carbon sink that can increase soil fertility underground. Nutrients in the soil can collect in the fine-pored surface of the charcoal, preventing them from leaching into the groundwater.
Toxic elements can be produced during the incineration process and leach into the groundwater during the settling period. Due to its enormous adsorption properties, the coal binds and immobilizes not only polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons but also heavy metals.
These remain stored in the basic components even after the urn has decomposed.
